How to Redirect on IIS

This will cover instructions on how to create a Redirect on IIS. The following steps will require ownership or control of the site your TinyURL points to. As these changes may lead to an interruption of service for your website, if you don't have or you are unsure how to proceed, please consult with your IT, hosting provider or Web Development team.

IIS Server

Redirection on IIS will need configuration of the `` element.

  1. Validate that HTTP Redirection is installed on your IIS.

  2. To add a redirect rule, open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager:

     *  For Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2, on the Taskbar, click Server Manager > Tools and then click IIS Manager.
     *  For Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, hold down Windows key, press the letter X and then click **Control Panel**. Click on Administrative Tools, and then double-click IIS Manager.
     *  For Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R, click Start on the Taskbar, point to Administrative Tools, and then click IIS Manager.
     *  For Windows Vista or Windows 7, click Start on the Taskbar, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools and then IIS Manager.
    
  3. In the Connections pane, expand the server name, expand Sites, and then navigate to the Web site or application that you want to configure custom error pages for.

  4. In the Home pane, double-click HTTP Redirect. HTTP redirect.png

  5. In the HTTP Redirect pane, check the box to redirect requests and enter the destination URL. HTTP redirect SIte.png

  6. Optional settings for the following configuration may be set:

  • Configure the redirection destination to be the exact destination as entered.
  • Configure the redirection destination to be limited to the destination URL's root folder.
  • Configure the HTTP status code, which can be one of these three options:
  1. To save all the changes, click Apply in the Tasks pane.
